Hamline Compact

Hamline Elementary Family-School Compact for Achievement

What Is a Family-School Compact?

A Family-School Compact for Achievement is an agreement that families, students, and teachers develop together. It explains how families and teachers will work together to make sure all students get the individual support they need to reach and exceed grade level standards.

Jointly Developed with Families

Families at Hamline Elementary helped develop this Compact for Achievement. School-wide meetings are held each year to update the compact. Families are welcome to contribute comments at any time.

Families are welcome to walk their child to breakfast and the classroom in the morning and to join their child for lunch.

Communicating about Learning

Hamline Elementary is committed to communicating regularly with families about children’s learning.

Some of the ways you can expect us to communicate are:

  • Weekly grade-level newsletters, which are sent home and also printed and copies available for families in the front lobby.
  • School newsletters, twice a month and as needed for special events or resources
  • Regular “check-in” notes, emails, and texts
  • Teachers will give parents their phone number and email at the start of the school year.

Do you have questions about your child’s progress? Families can contact your child’s teacher anytime.

HAMLINE STUDENTS

Hamline students joined staff and families to develop ideas about how they can succeed at school. Students thought of the following ideas to make connections between learning at home and school:

  • Show families my homework and any other important information from school.
  • Follow school expectations so we have a safe place to learn.
  • Put forth my best effort, ask questions, and ask for help when I need it.
  • Never give up

Our Hamline Commitment

The grade level teams will work with students and their families to support students’ success in reading and math.

Some of our key connections with families will be:

  • Provide weekly take home folder with newsletters featuring updates on reading, writing, and math content areas, how to support learning at home, and volunteer opportunities at school.
  • Offer family night opportunities to showcase student learning, build community between school and family, and provide ideas for families to best support learning at home.
  • Access to a family resource room which provides targeted resources and support to best meet the needs of all of our families.
  • Provide families with interpreting supports, translated documents, and transportation upon request.

At Home

Hamline families joined staff to develop ideas about how families can support students’ success in reading, writing and math. Families may have other ideas to add to this list.

  • Have my child at school every day and on time.
  • Check backpack daily to be informed on school happenings by reading weekly and monthly newsletters to stay connected to school.
  • Support our children in making connections between school learning and everyday home experiences.
  • Attend school events such as conferences, family nights, and PTA activities that build community and best support our children’s learning.
